Wait... WHAT? ... a fursuit I guess...

I haven't made anything for quite some time now and my hands really need to work on something again.
About 8 months ago I decided to create a Guild Wars 2 "Charr" costume. Back then the game had not yet been release and I thought september 2012 would be the perfect time to show off this costume. I have not had the time to do this though, but still feel very excited about making one. Since a Charr is basically a bipedal lion with 4 ears and horns, this means I will be making a... fursuit! There are 2 different "fabric fairs" I will go to. The first will be held next saturday and I hope to find what I'm looking for there. If even the other fair does not have what I need, I'll have to order it from the interwebz. Anyway, this is sort of what I plan to make:

This is the finished costume. I actually wore it for only 1,5 hours. It was too cold.
Also like I have said before: "It's not me". Luckily Kelsey and I feel the same way about our matching costumes. We won't be wearing them again. A friend of mine has come forward and asked if she could have it.
I'm giving it to her. At least I won't have to throw it out that way. :).
This was my first fail hahaha XD.

Last minute stress and bad weather.

I just went out to buy everything I still needed.
I did not get the stockings I wanted, so we'll see what I'll do about that.
I also found that the store I needed for plastic gems was closed.
I was unable to buy a matching bra, and did not get supplies for a staff.
The weather forecast says that it's going to be awful so I kind of dropped the whole staff idea and am now thinking of simply buying an umbrella.
for some reason i feel like I should just drop all the extra things for this costume. If the weather is going to be that wet and cold I'm not sure how long I can stand to wear this...
I'll let you know what I decide on friday night, the night before the EFF.

Tick-tock goes the clock.

I have been procrastinating and helping Kelsey with her costume.
At times I wonder whether I could finish in time and at other times I feel like I still have plenty of time haha.
I have finished the basic form of the top. I used to layers of fabric, one layer of the cheap stain and one layer of purple cotton. This way I made a better quality top which would otherwise have shown all the bumps and lumps I have :D lawl.
Also, I was considering dropping the light blue fluff part (It's too much), but adding a staff. I'll have to see how much time I have left.
Also, I'm still not sure whether I want to add the pearls.
I think I do, but I'm not sure if I have enough time to order them.

anyway, this is what I have so far:

I have to finish it this friday, and I've only got a couple of evenings left to work on it.
*tells herself: you can do it!*
I'll let you know what happens ;).

The colorful EFF project.

For the EFF april 2012 I have probably designed more than 5 costumes. I liked none of them enough. Eventually I designed a very colorful costume which friends seemed to like. I then decided to make that one.
By now I've realized that this costume isn't "me". This is not something I'm going to wear because I feel good in it. The EFF has become more than just a fantasy event. People show of their costumes and their crafts. And I want to be recognized as well! I guess that's why I designed this one. Don't get me wrong though, I still enjoy making it and still think it looks good ;).
This is the basic design:
I'm working with cheap shiny fabrics. Mostly satin and organza.
So far I've been working on swirly "flaps" for a skirt. I order to keep them in shape I add a back layer of faux leather and a iron wire.

Also, to keep the organza from fraying, I use an incense
stick to sort of melt the edges.
this is what it looked like a couple
weeks ago:
I still have much to do!

Catching up.

Okay... So.. It's been quite a while.
A few have asked me why I haven't updated my blog in such a long while and that they'd like to see more. So here I am again. I'll post progress on projects more often. As for what I've been up to, creatively speaking, not too much worth mentioning. What I would like to tell you about is my first experience in stone carving/sculpting. It was about a year ago. During the summer holidays, my mother, stepdad and I took a three day sculpting class. We each brought a sculpture home. It was not just me who very much enjoyed this experience. My mom loved it so much that she got a complete sculpting set for her birthday from my stepdad and she's looking forward to her new project. (I'd love to sculpt again myself!).Anyway, here's my result:

Its right wing is folded back because I had to work with the stone I had.

Also, I made this drawing of a dwarf based on descriptions from a friend's game.
I'll have this be a reminder that I promised him to draw a company of 7 dwarfs ;).

Also, on the subject of sewing. I of course finished my shaman costume and wore it to Castlefest. after that I had no projects to work on. I really missed it. About a month ago I bought fabric for another EFF costume. And yesterday I made a gown/dress for a friend from good quality satin. I'll post pictures of that one later
:).
So, last but not least. Here's my Shaman costume:

The Shaman Outfit

It has been a while since I last worked on my costume.

Since I have only one month left to finish the costume it's good that I started again.

Today I finished the top. All there's left to do is to sew a bolero/vest thingy (no idea what it's called in english :P) and to make the acessoires and details.

I inted to used beads, bones and feathers for acessoires. I'll make the bones out of clay.

Also I intend to buy some woll in order to create fake dreadlocks which I will wear in my hair.

anyway, this is as far as I've gotten:
