Wait... WHAT? ... a fursuit I guess...

I haven't made anything for quite some time now and my hands really need to work on something again.
About 8 months ago I decided to create a Guild Wars 2 "Charr" costume. Back then the game had not yet been release and I thought september 2012 would be the perfect time to show off this costume. I have not had the time to do this though, but still feel very excited about making one. Since a Charr is basically a bipedal lion with 4 ears and horns, this means I will be making a... fursuit! There are 2 different "fabric fairs" I will go to. The first will be held next saturday and I hope to find what I'm looking for there. If even the other fair does not have what I need, I'll have to order it from the interwebz. Anyway, this is sort of what I plan to make:

maandag 30 april 2012

This is the finished costume. I actually wore it for only 1,5 hours. It was too cold.
Also like I have said before: "It's not me". Luckily Kelsey and I feel the same way about our matching costumes. We won't be wearing them again. A friend of mine has come forward and asked if she could have it.
I'm giving it to her. At least I won't have to throw it out that way. :).
This was my first fail hahaha XD.

Last minute stress and bad weather.

I just went out to buy everything I still needed.
I did not get the stockings I wanted, so we'll see what I'll do about that.
I also found that the store I needed for plastic gems was closed.
I was unable to buy a matching bra, and did not get supplies for a staff.
The weather forecast says that it's going to be awful so I kind of dropped the whole staff idea and am now thinking of simply buying an umbrella.
for some reason i feel like I should just drop all the extra things for this costume. If the weather is going to be that wet and cold I'm not sure how long I can stand to wear this...
I'll let you know what I decide on friday night, the night before the EFF.

Tick-tock goes the clock.

I have been procrastinating and helping Kelsey with her costume.
At times I wonder whether I could finish in time and at other times I feel like I still have plenty of time haha.
I have finished the basic form of the top. I used to layers of fabric, one layer of the cheap stain and one layer of purple cotton. This way I made a better quality top which would otherwise have shown all the bumps and lumps I have :D lawl.
Also, I was considering dropping the light blue fluff part (It's too much), but adding a staff. I'll have to see how much time I have left.
Also, I'm still not sure whether I want to add the pearls.
I think I do, but I'm not sure if I have enough time to order them.

anyway, this is what I have so far:

I have to finish it this friday, and I've only got a couple of evenings left to work on it.
*tells herself: you can do it!*
I'll let you know what happens ;).

The colorful EFF project.

For the EFF april 2012 I have probably designed more than 5 costumes. I liked none of them enough. Eventually I designed a very colorful costume which friends seemed to like. I then decided to make that one.
By now I've realized that this costume isn't "me". This is not something I'm going to wear because I feel good in it. The EFF has become more than just a fantasy event. People show of their costumes and their crafts. And I want to be recognized as well! I guess that's why I designed this one. Don't get me wrong though, I still enjoy making it and still think it looks good ;).
This is the basic design:
I'm working with cheap shiny fabrics. Mostly satin and organza.
So far I've been working on swirly "flaps" for a skirt. I order to keep them in shape I add a back layer of faux leather and a iron wire.

Also, to keep the organza from fraying, I use an incense
stick to sort of melt the edges.
this is what it looked like a couple
weeks ago:
I still have much to do!

Catching up.

Okay... So.. It's been quite a while.
A few have asked me why I haven't updated my blog in such a long while and that they'd like to see more. So here I am again. I'll post progress on projects more often. As for what I've been up to, creatively speaking, not too much worth mentioning. What I would like to tell you about is my first experience in stone carving/sculpting. It was about a year ago. During the summer holidays, my mother, stepdad and I took a three day sculpting class. We each brought a sculpture home. It was not just me who very much enjoyed this experience. My mom loved it so much that she got a complete sculpting set for her birthday from my stepdad and she's looking forward to her new project. (I'd love to sculpt again myself!).Anyway, here's my result:

Its right wing is folded back because I had to work with the stone I had.

Also, I made this drawing of a dwarf based on descriptions from a friend's game.
I'll have this be a reminder that I promised him to draw a company of 7 dwarfs ;).

Also, on the subject of sewing. I of course finished my shaman costume and wore it to Castlefest. after that I had no projects to work on. I really missed it. About a month ago I bought fabric for another EFF costume. And yesterday I made a gown/dress for a friend from good quality satin. I'll post pictures of that one later
:).
So, last but not least. Here's my Shaman costume:

The Shaman Outfit

It has been a while since I last worked on my costume.

Since I have only one month left to finish the costume it's good that I started again.

Today I finished the top. All there's left to do is to sew a bolero/vest thingy (no idea what it's called in english :P) and to make the acessoires and details.

I inted to used beads, bones and feathers for acessoires. I'll make the bones out of clay.

Also I intend to buy some woll in order to create fake dreadlocks which I will wear in my hair.

anyway, this is as far as I've gotten:

Shaman/Druid

I've had a few designs and concepts on a shaman or druid costume stored on my computer in a "possible future projects" folder. Each time I went to buy fabrics at the "fabric market" I kept staring at nice fabrics I could use in a shaman costume. And a few weeks ago the fabric market came to Putten, a village near garderen where I like to spend my weekends in the forest.
Since I was going to Garderen anyway I decided to buy fabrics for the shaman costume.

And here's what I've done with them since yesterday evening:

It's open at the front, all the flaps are seperate and loose. The botom skirt has pockets. Figured they might come in handy :P.
This costume won't have the wow-factor I usually try to achieve. This'll be a more comfortable one. Yet it's something I've wanted to make for some time.

I hope to finish this one before castlefest in august.

The Elf Warrior.

I haven't been as loyal a poster with this project as I was with the previous one. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that I didn't have much time. I did not complete all of the work I had planned but the costume turned out okay.
Two days before the EFF I was photographed in costume and interviewed for an article about the EFF in a national newspaper.

Here are a few pics of the end result.
(unfortunately I do not have a picture of Priscilla's TinkerBell costume, which was pretty cute)

Jonne Järvelä

After seeing Korpiklaani live for the first time I became an even bigger fan. Some bandmembers were tired since it was the last concert of the tour but Jonne and Kalle seemed to have so much fun. Jonne's performance was cool and funny at the same time XD! Dancing around on the stage LOL. Yesterday I suddenly felt inspired to draw him. I based it on a picture I found online. I had to start over once because in the first version I was unable to "capture his essence". I know it's far from perfect. I was too lazy to prefectly copy his intricate tattoo, the shading is far from perfect und so weiter.. But! I like it enopugh to post a picture online :P So here it is:

Top.

I've come to the conclusion that I'm terrible at planning :B. In the meantime I've made and finished Priscilla's tinkerbell costume.

I'll upload pictures later. Also I've been working on the top for my costume. Most of the red fabric will be covered in faux leather scales. The armor will come on top of this. I hope I'll be able to finish all this on time :/

Armor

I've been working at a slower pace. I knew I was being too optimistic when I said I'd be finished now XD. Or I just didn't factor in that I actually have a life... LoL.Anyway, I've been working on the armor. I'ts not coming a long as quickly as I'd hoped 'cause I have to wait for each piece to dry and harder before I can put on another layer of the glue/sawdust mix. For some reason I'm also obsessing over the pieces that will go on the back and the front of the torso. I don't want them to be too thick 'cause I don't want to look fat XD. Also they can´t bee too thin because I would risk breaking them. I wonder how they are going to turn out :P.

Over the past few weeks I've also "finished" the pants and both the boots. Now all they need are the faux leather scales which I cannot yet sew on because I don't have the fabric yet. (I will soon). I like how it's starting to look though :D. Even though I made a design I always change things as I go along so I wonder what it'll look like when I'm done :P.

the wig

I've never been blonde in my life...

I did wonder a few times what it would look like.

I can't get used to it XD! but it'll probably look nice with my costume.

The picture looks a little weird cause a. it was taking in a dark room and b. I quickly used photoshop to make my eyes look green. They look a little creepy right now but I intend to buy

natural looking green contacts.

I'll update you later on the progress on the costume itself. I reckon I'm almost halfway there.

The Boots

Yes it is incredibly hard to try and photograph you own leg! (hence the weird pose) I couldn't even get both my feet on the picture XD.

I've been working a lot on my new costume and I might even be able to finish it this month O_o!
(Homigawsh that's such a positive attitude). I've been working on a lot of different parts and that's probably why nothing is finished yet. After much pondering I decided that I'm going to make the scale out of faux leather. seeing as I don't have that, I'll have to buy it to be able to finish any parts. The boot is a little too wide though so I'll probably work on that later.
For now, I'm pleased with how things are coming along.

Design

Ok so I decided that it doesn't really matter after all if I show my design. I know it looks a little odd :P but at least now I can show you what I plan to make :D

EFF April 2011

Yes yes, It's about time I started on a new costume. For some insane reason I think I can make an even more awesome costume for the EFF in April than the one I made for the EFF in September in HALF the time XD.This time there'll be more *crafting* and less sewing. I'll upload a picture of the design later 'cause I may want to use this costume in a contest. I don't know yet though.
I made a similar but less difficult to make design for kelsey. I told her that I'm going to focus on this costume and that she'll have to work on her own by herself. I will help her with the patterns but she can do the crafting herself :P.

As for the crafting. I started working on a sword. Everything in this costume is of my own design including the sword. I've never done this before so I may screw up and start over XD. On the other hand. This could turn out to be an awesome sword!I used a plywood base and covered it with a mixture of glue and sawdust. I picked this technique up on a website on making dolls. Suposedly I'll be able to sand it down afterwards and make the perfect looking sword :D.

Oh and BTW this should really be done outside :P

Midwinter Fair 2010

Woo :3 the midwinter fair was fun :D

I thought I'd upload a picture of what I looked like wearing the cape.

I had never been at the midwinterfair before. Ít's not as huge as the Elf Fantasy Fair but it's was fun and cozy. It was held at the archeon which is a park that has stoneage and roman buildings on the grounds so it all looked medieval. It was cold! but we had fun browsing the market stalls eating poffertjes :D! and listening to celtic/folk/irish music.

vrijdag 10 december 2010

the cape is complete :D!

After lots of hand sewing, broken needles and pinpricks it's finally done!About time to since the fair is the day after tomorrow :P.I had trouble finding the right feathers/ feather boa for the lining. I experimented some with dye on a white boa... that failed. It looked like roadkill O_o srsly! And yesterday I found a shop that sells weird/retro/alternative/second hand clothing and the owner told me that there was a box full of new boas on its way :D. I got so lucky with this one. It was surprisingly cheap for such great quality! Anyway.. I'll upload pictures of me wearing my new chicken costume :3 after the fair.

mid winter fair cape

Progress is slow.
I'm very busy with my studies atm but as long as I get it done in a week it should be fine.
A week is more than enough the only problem is that I don't know with what I'm going to line the cape. .. I'll work it out later :3

mid winter fair cape

I haven't done much work on my mwf cape. none actually since I started.

I did make a mask to go with the cape. I might also buy a pair of cheap shoes and costumize those. anyway, atm I'm too lazy to add anymore info :B
